Have you ever had the experience of knowing who was calling before you picked up the phone? Walked into a room and immediately felt that “something is wrong here”? Or inexplicably “knew” that someone was lying? These fleeting moments of intuition that flash through daily life are, in the world of healing, carefully cultivated and developed core capabilities. This ability is called Higher Sense Perception.

What Is Higher Sense Perception?

Higher Sense Perception refers to the capacity to receive information through channels beyond the normal five senses. It is not some mysterious superpower, but an innate human potential for perception. Just as some people are born with better pitch or more developed athletic coordination, Higher Sense Perception can be developed and strengthened through training.

In healing work, Higher Sense Perception serves as the healer’s most important diagnostic tool. Through it, the healer can directly access information about a client’s physical condition, energy field state, and the root causes of illness. Author Barbara Brennan categorizes Higher Sense Perception into several primary forms: kinesthetic sensing, clairvoyance, and clairaudience. Each person has their own preferred mode of perception, and identifying your dominant sensory channel is the first step in developing Higher Sense Perception.

Kinesthetic Sensing: Knowing with Your Body

Kinesthetic sensing is the ability to receive information through physical sensation. This was the first form of Higher Sense Perception Brennan developed, stemming from her years of experience in body-oriented psychotherapy.

To develop kinesthetic sensing, begin with simple meditation: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus your attention on your body’s interior, sensing each part and organ. Some find it easier to make connections by touching the area they are sensing. Then, use the same method to sense the surrounding space—eyes closed, sitting still, feel the room you’re in, consciously connecting to different positions or objects within it.

With practice, you can have someone guide you to an unfamiliar room, sit down, and sense the space with your body. What do you feel? Tension? Calm? Oppression? Openness? Remove your blindfold and verify whether your feelings were accurate. Practice the same exercise with different people, animals, and plants. Gradually, you’ll discover that your body is telling you much that your eyes cannot see.

Clairvoyance: Seeing with the Third Eye

Clairvoyance is the ability to receive visual information through channels other than physical sight. Brennan discovered that the images she received fell into two categories: symbolic and literal.

Symbolic images appear in forms that carry personal meaning. You might see rotating nebulae in the sky, or a large chocolate cake—these images require interpretation; they relate to your personal experiences and psychological state. Literal images appear as clearly as photographs—you can see inside a client’s body like an X-ray machine, observing organ colors, textures, and even discovering microorganisms invading their tissues.

To develop clairvoyance, also begin with meditation. Close your eyes and “look” inside your body. If you have difficulty, engage your other senses—touch the area you’re trying to perceive, or listen to it, until you sense an image forming. Then practice with your room: observe it carefully with open eyes, then close your eyes and recreate the room’s image in your mind.

As your ability grows, try scanning a friend’s physical condition. Have them sit while you close your eyes and sweep your inner vision through their entire body. Notice which areas attract your attention—you might catch colors, textures, or just vague sense that something is there. Allow images to emerge naturally; don’t force them. Afterwards, discuss what you received with your friend and verify your observations.

Clairaudience: Hearing the Voice of Guidance

Clairaudience is the ability to receive information through the auditory channel. This is the primary means of communicating with spiritual guidance. Brennan shares her experience connecting with her guide, “Heyoan”—beginning with general messages of love and reassurance that, with practice, developed into precise diagnoses and recommendations.

The best way to enhance clairaudience is to sit quietly and wait for guidance. Have paper and pen ready, assume a comfortable meditation posture, focus your will, and raise your consciousness. Formulate your question in your mind as clearly as possible. Focus intently on receiving a true answer, and be willing to accept whatever comes. Write your question on the paper and place it within easy reach.

Gather your concentration, quiet your mind, and wait for answers to emerge. After a period of silence, answers will begin to arrive. They may appear as images, sensations, concepts, words, or even tastes. Whatever you receive, write it down—even if it seems irrelevant, record it. The way messages appear isn’t fixed; just keep receiving and recording.

Continue writing, and gradually the messages will begin to appear as sound. Listen carefully to the words that emerge. Practice consistently. Whatever you hear, write it down without omitting anything. After finishing, set it aside for at least four hours before reading it again. Upon rereading, you’ll likely discover valuable insights.

Connecting with Your Guides

As clairaudience develops, you may begin receiving messages from “guides.” Brennan’s guide Heyoan introduced himself as “the wind that whispers truth through the ages.” Everyone has several guides—some have accompanied you through many lifetimes; others are “teacher guides” for specific periods of learning.

The key to connecting with guides lies in cultivating a quiet, peaceful mind. Know that you are one with God, that the spark of divinity exists in every part of you, and that you are absolutely safe. This allows you to enter a deeply quiet state, ready to receive guidance.

Your guides will communicate in whatever way is easiest for you to receive—concepts, words, symbolic patterns, or actual scenes. If one method isn’t working, or if you’re afraid of what you’re receiving, your guides will change their approach or approach the subject from another angle.

The Chakras and Perception

Interestingly, each form of Higher Sense Perception corresponds to a specific chakra. In other words, we receive information through the perceptual mechanism of our chakras:

When we open a chakra at a particular level, we can perceive information from that level of reality. If you want to see guides at the ketheric template level, you need to open your sixth chakra at that level.

These perceptual tools are not the privilege of psychics, but the next natural step in human evolution. Through meditation, practice, and honest personal growth, we can all open these inner senses and understand ourselves and this vast world more deeply.
