Have you ever wondered why certain emotions trigger specific physical sensations—a knot in your stomach when anxious, a pang in your chest when heartbroken, a chill at the base of your spine when frightened? Then you’ve already touched, without knowing it, upon the mystery of the chakras. These spinning energy centers are precisely the bridges connecting body, emotion, and consciousness.

What Are Chakras?
The word “chakra” in Sanskrit means “wheel” or “vortex.” Within the human energy field, chakras are seven major energy centers aligned along the spine from the tailbone to the crown of the head. They function as sophisticated energy transformers, absorbing life force (prana/chi) from the universal energy field, breaking it down, and then distributing it through the meridian system to every part of the body—the nervous system, endocrine glands, and ultimately nourishing all physical organs.
Each chakra spins at high speed, metabolizing energy at specific frequencies. These frequencies determine the colors we observe. When functioning normally, chakras rotate clockwise, drawing energy from the universal field—much like the right-hand rule in electromagnetism. When a chakra rotates counterclockwise, energy flows outward from the body, disrupting metabolism; we call this a “closed” chakra.
Seven Chakras: Seven Steps from Survival to Divinity
First Chakra: Root Chakra
Located at the tailbone, this chakra relates to physical energy and the will to survive in the material world. It connects to the adrenal glands, spine, and kidneys. When this center is fully open, you experience a powerful presence in the material world, filled with vitality and life force. You are “here and now,” firmly grounded in the earth.
If the root chakra is blocked, you may experience low energy, avoid physical activity, or even become “sickly.” Your presence in the material world feels weak—you are not fully “here.”
Second Chakra: Sacral Chakra
Located just above the pubic bone, this chakra has two centers: the front pubic center relates to the quality of love for the opposite sex; the rear sacral center relates to the quantity of sexual energy. It connects to the reproductive system.
When the sacral chakra is open, you can freely give and receive sexual pleasure and physical joy, with the capacity for orgasm. A complete physical orgasm requires all centers to be open, and orgasm itself is important for physical health—like an energy bath that clears the system of blockages, waste, and excessive tension.
Third Chakra: Solar Plexus Chakra
Located in the stomach area, this chakra relates to heartfelt joy, spiritual wisdom, and your sense of place in the universe. It connects to the pancreas, stomach, liver, and gallbladder.
When the solar plexus functions healthily, you can gaze at the starry sky and feel you belong to it. You are firmly rooted in your cosmic positioning, distilling spiritual wisdom from this connection. If this center is open but its protective membrane is torn, you’ll experience overwhelming, uncontrollable emotions. If it’s closed, you’ll limit your feelings and lose connection with your larger purpose.
Fourth Chakra: Heart Chakra
Located in the center of the chest, this is the center of love. Energy connecting all life flows through it. It connects to the heart, thymus gland, and circulatory system.
The more open your heart chakra, the greater your capacity to love life itself. From loving yourself, your children, and your partner, to loving your neighbors, all humanity, and every being on Earth—this is an ever-expanding circle of love. In healing, the heart chakra is paramount. All energy absorbed through other chakras must pass through the heart’s “transformative fire”—whether converting spiritual energy to physical, or physical energy to spiritual.
Fifth Chakra: Throat Chakra
Located in the throat, this chakra relates to taking responsibility for your needs, self-accountability, and manifesting through the power of sound. It connects to the bronchi, lungs, thyroid, and digestive tract.
When the throat chakra functions healthily, you take responsibility for your needs, actively creating what you require and desire. You receive whatever comes your way with reverence. If this center rotates counterclockwise, you’ll refuse what’s offered, perceiving the world as negative and fundamentally hostile.
Sixth Chakra: Third Eye Chakra
Located in the forehead, this chakra relates to visualization, understanding mental concepts, and intuition. It connects to the pituitary gland, lower brain, left eye, ears, and nervous system.
When the third eye is open, you can envision and comprehend mental concepts, perceiving the blueprint of reality and the universe. If it rotates counterclockwise, you’ll have confused thoughts or incorrect, usually negative, perceptions of reality—and you’ll project these perceptions onto your world.
Seventh Chakra: Crown Chakra
Located at the crown of the head, this chakra relates to spiritual connection and the integration of the whole person. It connects to the pineal gland and upper brain.
When the crown chakra is open, you experience your complete being, touching the spiritual dimension of humanity. This spirituality transcends dogma; it’s a state of being beyond the material world, creating wholeness, peace, and confidence within the individual—a sense of purpose in existence itself.

Diagnosing the Chakras: Listening to the Voice of Energy
How can you know if your chakras are balanced? The author recommends using a pendulum. The direction and amplitude of its swing reveal the degree of openness:
- Clockwise rotation: Indicates an open chakra, with balanced psychological experiences related to that center
- Counterclockwise rotation: Indicates a closed chakra, suggesting problems in the corresponding psychological dimension
- Amplitude of swing: Reflects the chakra’s strength and energy flow intensity
- Elliptical swing: Indicates energy imbalance between the body’s left and right sides
When the pendulum shows chaotic or irregular movement, it signals that the client is undergoing significant change or impact—a time requiring deep processing and space for introspection.
Chakra Imbalance and Health
Each chakra connects to specific endocrine glands and major nerve plexuses, giving it direct relationships with all physical conditions. When the energy system is unhealthy, chakras spin out of sync—too fast or too slow, irregular or unbalanced, sometimes showing ruptured energy patterns.
Some chakras may appear partially or completely atrophied, even reversed, indicating dysfunction or disease in corresponding physical areas. Chakras can be torn, their protective membranes stripped, tilted, blocked, or even completely vanished. These deformities extend through all seven layers of the energy field, often taking two years or more to manifest as physical disease.
Learning the language of the chakras means learning to hear the most subtle messages your body sends. Every imbalance is an invitation—calling you back within, to rediscover balance and harmony.
