In modern witchcraft and candle magic practices, a candle can be combined with colours, symbols, botanicals and ritual intentions to become part of your personal spiritual practice.

01｜The History & Culture of Candle Magic
Why is flame such a vital element in magical rituals?
We will start with the historical and cultural background of candle magic, guiding participants to learn the symbolic role of fire across different faiths and folk practices.
We will explore:
- Cultural backgrounds of ancient sacrificial fires, religious candlelight and folk candle spells
- Symbolic meaning of flames and candles within rituals
- Traditional associations of different candle colours in modern magical practice
- How to pick candles according to your personal ritual goals
For example, green is often linked to wealth and career intentions; red symbolises passion and love; white can be used for purification and new beginnings; black is commonly used for protection and cutting unwanted bonds.
Understanding these symbols is the first step to designing your own candle rituals.
02｜Magical Symbols & How to Use Sigils
Every symbol holds its unique symbolic language.
Carving on candles in candle magic is not simple decoration. Practitioners can turn abstract wishes into visually meaningful patterns through symbols.
This module introduces several symbol systems from different esoteric traditions, including:
Pentagram: Symbol of protection, balance and the elements
Planetary Symbols: Traditional emblems for the Sun, Moon, Venus and other planets
Runes: Learn meanings of runes such as Fehu and Algiz across traditions
Personal Sigils: Learn to transform your own intention into a unique symbol
No drawing or esoteric background is required. Guided by the instructor, you will pick suitable symbols based on your wish and finish the carving design for your first ritual candle.
03｜Handcraft Your First Ritual Candle
Carve your intention into wax, turning abstract wishes into a tangible creation you can hold.
During the hands-on session, participants will apply what they learn to complete the full candle design process.
From setting your personal intention and choosing candle colour, to carving symbols and learning about ritual oils and herbs — every step carries its own symbolic meaning.
You may set themes for love, wealth, career, protection or other personal wishes, combining different elements to create a ritual candle with special meaning for you.
Once finished, the instructor will also cover the basic process of home candle rituals, safety guidelines, and how to handle the candle after burning.
At the end of the workshop, you will take home your hand-carved ritual candle and understand your ritual design with the knowledge you gain.
Who can join in this workshop？
This is an in-person beginner-friendly experience class. No prior magic or craft experience needed.
You are welcome to join if you are curious about witch culture, folk magic, esoteric symbols and ancient rituals; if you love crystals, tarot, astrology or other symbolic spiritual practices; or simply want to hand-make something deeply personal.
We believe learning magic is not just about copying steps. What matters more is understanding the culture, symbolism and application behind every element.
